The colours are muted and grey | This shows how dull and frightening their lives have become since the zombie apocalypse. Their emotions have also become muted as they used to be happy with their normal lives but now they're in danger and are very scared. The grey tones also reflect how pale the zombies are and that they're lifeless. |
The characters all look different but are just normal people | This shows the reality of the apocalypse and that these characters aren't 'polished' and done up. They care more about their friends/family and their own safety than what they are wearing which is just everyday clothing. It shows how everyone is going through very rough times together. |
The setting seems as if they're in the middle of nowhere | All you can see are some trees and all the characters are standing on an RV. The area is very secluded except for two of the zombies which shows how dangerous the world has become as the zombies have destroyed everything and that the characters only have themselves and nothing else. |
There are only two women | The two women Andrea (which is holding the gun) and Lori are both very different. Andrea is a very strong and fearless woman as she is holding the gun to protect herself, whereas Lori has no weapons and is standing behind Rick (her husband) as she is weaker and less able to protect herself as she also has her son Carl to look out for. |
The strongest character is Rick (sheriff) | Rick being a sheriff shows the importance of his role within the apocalypse. The fact that he is in front of everyone shows how important he is as he is using his job to protect people which is what a sheriff does. He also shows how normal of a father/husband he is as he is protecting his wife and son. |
They all have weapons except for Lori and Carl | This suggests that as Lori, Carl and Rick are the only family in the picture, Rick trusts himself to look after them and is protecting them both so they don't need weapons. Everyone else has a weapon which shows that they are all very strong. On the other hand, Lori and Carl are portrayed within a stereotype of a 'perfect son and mother' as they will see no harm because of all the protection they have from everyone. |
Tokenism - There's only one Asian person (Glenn) | Glenn is the only Asian person which can show that he is ethnically different to everyone else but in fact they're all in the same situation so ethnicity doesn't matter. He is just as powerful and strong as the other members of the group so he is far from being a burden. |
Pathetic fallacy | The weather is very dull and grey looking which reflects the characters moods/emotions as they all look very serious as they kill zombies which is a very hard thing to do. |
Their body languages are very firm | They all look very firm and solid as they are all about to start up a fight and start killing zombies. This reflects all their personas as they're all angry and unhappy about the apocalypse taking over their lives and so they are ready to get payback. |
They're standing on the RV | This can be a symbol of the freedom they want and deserve as staying on ground (in the real world) is a danger to them. By standing on the RV its like they're closer to the sky which shows that they all have dreams of wanting to be safe or even wanting to be in a better place which can be heaven as the real world is too scary. |
